The Theresa May video – much ado about nothing and bring it on!

The Conservative politician and Home Secretary, Theresa May, has reportedly made a video that backed her party’s candidate for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Dorset – I have not seen it and I don’t really care. This seems to have kicked up a bit of a storm in a teacup with people saying she should somehow stay ‘neutral’.

Personally I cannot for the life of me see what the issue is. I would expect any political party member to support their candidate. I expect my chosen party to support me and I expect the Labour Party to support their candidate.

OK, some may think that her intervention as the Home Secretary gives the Tory candidate a bit of an unfair advantage especially during a period of supposed Purdah, all I say is ‘bring it on’.

The Tories want to slash and burn the pillars of our society to make what they call ‘smaller government’. But they are cutting and slashing the wrong things. The Tories have their priorities all wrong. They should be slashing the money they borrow to spend abroad to make them feel good – i.e. the £55 million a day they fritter away on the EU, which has not had its own audits signed of for nearly two decades, and the money they send abroad to foreign despots just to meet fluffy sounding (and woolly headed) targets.

All I have heard from the Conservative side is that they intend to do more with less, a euphemism for further cuts to the police.

The end result is those that can afford it buy in private security to protect them, while the poor are left in the lurch!

I believe that UK voters are more savvy than this and will see Theresa May’s electioneering for what it really is. A weak attempt to shore up a failing Conservative party that is riven from top to bottom, not just on the issue of the European Union but also on the issue of what is right for the people of the UK.

The people need a voice in policing that has the freedom of an independent to act to keep the people safe, together with the power of the party that forced the government to give us the EU In/Out referendum and only UKIP, the party with no whip system, can give you that!!
