A small, dedicated group of the Save our Beds! team joined like-minded people at ‘The NHS Gathering’ on the Horseshoe Common in Bournemouth today (22nd April 2017).
Julian Prichard, Steve Unwin and I volunteered to go to the event to highlight the struggle in Shaftesbury to keep the beds open in the Westminster Memorial Hospital. Check out the video below from 1 min 18 sec onwards.
The theme of the meeting was non party political as follows:
“Calling all care workers, nurses, doctors, junior doctors, auxiliary staff, patients, campaign groups, church groups, sacked NHS workers, activists, voters and everyone else.
We’re all worried about the future of the NHS and we feel helpless to stop £22bn of cuts and the relentless privatisation from happening. We will only save the NHS by working together across the country. There are various campaign groups in Dorset and they will be here to talk about their campaigns and listen to your experiences.
If you work for or use our beloved NHS we would love to meet you and hear your stories. We will make video and audio recording of those who wish to go on record to highlight their concerns and experiences. Come and meet like minded people and discuss a way forward for those determined to preserve the NHS and send an unequivocal message that THIS IS OUR NHS and it is not for sale.”
Julian, Steve and I were all called upon to speak and afterwards people came up and complimented both the Town Council and the SoB! team on the campaign and how well it was run.
Great entertainment was also provided by “Tribal Remedy”, who I believe donated their services for free.
PS: Guess who won the bottle of brandy in the Tombola ………….
