My Council Tax Rose by 6.2%

I’ve just received my council tax bill for the new unitary council and the only part of it that did not go up was for the Shaftesbury Town Council, on which I sit and I voted not to increase it!

But still the overall bill increased by 6.2 percent, all for this new unitary council that was put in place by the Tories to save money.

Well it’s saved those in Shaftesbury and North Dorset nothing and cost us all a lot.

This 6.2% rise is also outside the normal limits for increasing council tax before triggering a local referendum on the matter! And the amount asked for adult social care does not benefit from the rise!

This is all to balance council tax out across the new Dorset Council so that we in North Dorset pay more for no increase in services!

Just as I warned would happen.

  • Dorset Council – 6.3% rise
  • Adult social care 0%
  • Dorset Police – 11.6%
  • Dorset Fire and rescue – 3%
  • Shaftesbury Town Council – 0%
  • Total Rise – 6.2%

Is this really what you expected from your County and District councillors?

Talk about inflation busting?
